Siberia June 11-15, 2007
Fyl, Kate and Alex outside the Transiberian Express we took from Moscow to Irkutsk. Kate and Alex were in our same compartment.
The cooped-up conditions inside the 4 day train ride. We were feeling pretty sick by this point.
After 3 days, we all started to go a bit crazy.
Fyl making porridge at the hostel in Irkutsk. We were pretty sick and porridge was the only thing that kept us alive.
Fyl in front of a statue of Lenin in Irkutsk.
We paid extra to take a coach instead of a minibus to Olkhon Island. It wasn't worth it.
Captain Michelle on the ferry to Olkhon Island.
Michelle on the island.
Fyl conquered the sacred shaman rock!
The views on the island were amazing.
One of the coolest sites of Olkhon Island, and only about 500 meters from where we were staying.
Olkhon Island. People wrote messages from stones on the hill to the Island God or maybe aliens.
The little village we stayed in. They recently got electricity but still no running water.
Michelle's friend, Fyl's dinner.
Fyl untagles ipod cables in our little cabin.
Our second day the island was covered in mist. You could actually see it moving in front of your face.
We met fellow travelers Jeff and Martin on the Island. They took a walk through the mist with us.
Michelle swimming! Everyone swam but Fyl, because he thought it was too cold (which it was).
Sunset on the bay.
The lake was so still it was like a mirror. Our only regret about the island was that we couldn't stay longer.
Having a camp fire on bay of Lake Baikal.
