Temples of Angkor Sept 6-8, 2007
Michelle, Thue, Fyl, and Marie ready for action. Fyl is the most ready as you can see by his basket.
Fyl had already been to the temples of Angkor 1000 years ago, and so gave the rest of us a guided tour.
Angkor Wat, the largest of the temples.
Angkor what?
Michelle takes all the best artsy photographs.
An 800 year old horse still haunts the grounds at Angkor. Some say you can still ride him... for a price.
Another temple pictures! There's plenty of them on this page, so get used to them.
Exploring Angkor. Off to the right, you can see a man and his son cutting the grass by hand.
It's a temple.
More temples.
Fyl and Thue are men about town.
Michelle is lost in the temple. OR IS THE TEMPLE LOST IN HER?
Rawr.
Question: Are coconuts bigger than Michelle's head? Answer: Yes.
Only the coolest monkeys with mohawks drink Sprite.
These dancers were a common site carved into the temples.
Fyl thinks of times past.
Land mine victims busking near the temples.
You can ride an elephant for $11! (we didn't)
The gang on top of a hill for sunset.
Michelle and Thue brave the dark path down the temple wall. And is that a ghost behind Michelle?
Michelle and Marie traveling first class tuk-tuk style.
Stone and swamps are what Cambodia is all about.
Michelle has always wanted to be a Hindu statue. Reach for the stars Michelle. Reach for the stars.
Ta Prohm temple is slowly being taken over by the jungle.
Walls are no match for trees, given enough time.
More trees vs temples.
Part of the Tomb Raider movie was filmed here. That's Michelle in this picture, not Lara Croft.
Oh, and that's Fyl. Also not Lara Croft.
More trees and temples.
A snake fell on Michelle's head here. As you can imagine, she was very calm about it.
Some of the trees looked like they were under attack by other trees.
MONSTER TREE!
FACT: Spiders in Cambodia are up to 60% scarier than spiders anywhere else.
Michelle bumped into this pillar, but fortunately Fyl was there to hold it up.
Michelle conquers the temple!!! Actually, she was too scared to climb the stairs any higher.
Fyl and Michelle just hanging out with their Cambodian friends. (We had to pay them $1 for this friendship and photo)
Spooky faces in the rocks.
More 1000 year old carvings.
A foggy, mostly destroyed, temple.
Thue told us this was "The most beautiful sunset we'd ever see".
March 22, 1987. Now THAT was a sunset. This one was okay too though, I guess.
Fyl ruins yet another picture in his need to instruct people on how to best take the picture.
The road to nowhere.
Michelle never saw this temple.
A maze of corridors.
